Rapping and writing poetry since first grade, US Marine, D’Meitz, didn’t start taking his music work seriously until getting into the spoken word scene during high school in Cleveland, Ohio. Since then, he has participated in freestyle rap battles, winning competitions throughout Cleveland, Detroit, New York City, Atlanta, Baltimore, and Washington D.C. He is a regular competitor in GrindTimeNow, the world’s largest Rap Battle league.
D’Meitz is currently enlisted active duty in the United States Marine Corps and served in Iraq in 2008. While traveling with the Marines he was able to release his first LP record in Japan, “Chivalry, Solemnity, and other bad ideas” in July 2009. As a follow up to his initial success, he teamed up with world famous DJ Mick Boogie to release “To Those with Wings,” a free mixtape made available for download in November 2009. He released his newest creation, “Mortal,” on April 1, 2011. “Mortal” is a full length LP, made available free for download or the listener can choose to pay any price they set. “Mortal” showcases D’Meitz’s first album with complete live instrumentation and was created through a partnership with multi-talented Moldovan pianist, Ilusha.
With influences ranging from Bob Dylan to Jay Z, D’Meitz is poised to continually push music into new and innovating directions. Existentialist yet peaceful and littered with positive-thinking political undertones, D’Meitz is bringing storytelling and heart to the music scene.
